Summary

On 6-7 June 2019, Experience Workshop’s two-day-Erasmus+ Poly-Universe in School Education multiplication event at the University of Jyväskylä marked the endpoint of two years of research and educational development of the Hungarian Poly-Universe tool in education.

Experience Workshop’s goal was to invite educators and students of education and related disciplines to closer examine the PUSE project and its results, and to give inspiring practical exercises as well. Fifty participants received a set of the Poly-Universe toolkit and a copy of the PUSE methodology book. The program of the closing event largely concentrated on presenting the professional results and the achieved impact of the project and the practical use of the toolkit to ensure the sustainability of the project activities.

Within the frameworks of the workshop entitled „Multidisciplinary Mathematics Learning with the Poly-Universe Visual Experience Toolkit” we gave insights into the art of János Saxon-Szász, the origins of the Poly-Universe toolkit and gave large space to the experiences of teachers who participated in the PUSE project.

Participants had the possibility to gain experiences in the versatility of the toolkit as a multidisciplinary teaching aid, such as free play, geometry and measurement, geometry and drawing, composition and building. The Poly-Universe Methodology Academy for STEM teachers with Nóra Somlyódy and Matias Kaukolinna, which took place on the 6th and the 7th of June at the University of Jyväskylä, offered the possibility to get acquainted with the PUSE toolkit and methodology in an open form, according to individual professional expectations.

The events took place in the scientific collaboration with the largest STEM-teacher meet-up of Finland, the LUMA Days in Jyväskylä, providing the opportunity to gain the widest possible visibility for PUSE Erasmus+ efforts. Professor Zsolt Lavicza’s (Johannes Kepler University-Linz) scientific lecture put Experience Workshop’s Poly-Universe activities into a broad, global scientific and educational context of STEAM education.
